Members of NRCA's robotics program visited CBS 17's "My Carolina" morning show before Christmas break.

NRCA's Director of Technology Operations, Zack Dean, who coordinates the school's robotics and engineering program, brought along seniors Ben Christner (lead builder) and Anna Burckart (lead programmer) to share their experiences in competitive robotics. Christner and Burckart are original members of NRCA's robotics teams.

"The core team has been with me since eighth grade and are now seniors.  We've come such a long way in these past five years," Dean said.

On January 4, the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) announced the 2025 theme—Reefscape.

"It's an ocean-themed competition where robots compete to put 'coral' and 'algae' game pieces on coral trees and then hang and climb at the end of the competition in a 'barge' area," explained Dean.

The robotics team is busy working on the 2025 FRC design in the new Technology Engineering Design lab, which is a part of the auditorium expansion project completed this fall.

Middle and high school robotics teams compete in the FIRST Lego League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and VEX Robotics competition as well.

NRCA community members interested in learning more about the program and opportunities to help should contact Mr. Zack Dean at zdean@nrcaknights.com.
