Held on Monday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 7:30 pm, NRCA’s Fall College Fair helped students and their families grow knowledgeable in navigating students’ exciting next steps. The event offered direct access to representatives from 29 institutions.
Mrs. Susan Etheridge, NRCA’s Director of Academic Advising, began planning several months in advance to align various representatives’ schedules and reserve the gymnasium for the successful event. Etheridge featured the event in the weekly Academic Reminders & Announcements newsletter, the daily announcements, and on posters.
Choosing a college is a big decision for high school students, so NRCA seeks to help students build connections with university representatives, as well as learn what they need to look for in colleges to make their best personal decisions.
“The fair allows students to explore a wide range of colleges in one place — including many they may not have considered otherwise — and gives parents the opportunity to ask informed questions about admissions, financial aid, and academic programs,” Etheridge said. “Beyond individual benefits, the college fair reflects NRCA’s broader mission to support students in making wise, well-informed choices about their future. It encourages early engagement in the college planning process, promotes open communication between families and institutions, and helps build confidence in students as they prepare for life after high school.”
Attention to detail and a deep level of commitment to assisting both families and college representatives wins favorable reviews of the fair each year. Etheridge said, “[The representatives] often comment on how organized and welcoming the environment is, how engaged our students are in conversation, and how much they appreciate the personal touches — from the gift bags to the presence of parents in the evening. All of these small details work together to create a professional yet warm atmosphere that reflects NRCA’s commitment to excellence and hospitality.”
