Our desire is to serve those who have been affected by coastal storms, including those still affected by Hurricane Florence. Please remember that the debris removal (among other aspects of the work) is only the tool for reaching people for Christ.

Students should inquire about serving with this organization by going to the link above and filling out the information on that page. A staff member from Baptists on Mission will reach out to you to begin coordinating with you regarding your trip.

Depending on your skill levels, your group can do any of the following:

• Construction – Assist homeowners in need with basic home repairs of all types. We have already scouted dozens of projects awaiting completion. Many of these projects are homes of the elderly or widowed or homes with children. The projects can be simple or complex – it’s up to you! Our staff will be available to assist.

• Community – We have developed several of our own local ministries and have nurtured multiple partnerships with local outreach ministries in our area. Your team may serve in food pantries, churches, adult care centers, clothing centers, nursing homes, and more.

• Children – As schedules and permissions allow, your team may work with local schools, children’s programs, or day camps.

• Other – Does your team have specific skills that you’d like to utilize during your mission trip? If so, please let us know, and we will do our best to connect your team with needs in our area.

Foothills Service Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Christian home repair ministry established for the purpose of assisting persons in Burke and surrounding counties to make homes dry, safe, warm, and accessible. Our project is committed to honoring the God-given dignity and value of all people, regardless of race, color, or creed. We intend to promote the physical and spiritual health of all those who need help but are lacking the knowledge or physical ability to help themselves, with an emphasis on assisting the older adult population. Our ministry is possible only because of the many caring people willing to help others in need.

Students will have the opportunity to serve by helping build accessibility ramps as well as other projects, including the following: porches replaced/repaired, handrails/grab bars installed, lift chairs installed, or floors repaired. Through Hinton’s Mission Outreach Program, teams serve for a week or weekend on Safe and Healthy Home Repair projects in the local Appalachian community. Projects may include the following: building wheelchair ramps, porches, and steps; underpinning mobile homes; painting; repairing floors; and helping with yard work.

Our mission emphasis is not just on construction or completing projects but on building relationships with our neighbors. Through hands-on work and building relationships, mission team members open themselves up to being served in return.

Students who serve with Operation Christmas Child for a minimum of three days of at least eight hours per day, helping package shoe boxes for the OCC season, will be able to fulfill their mission trip requirement. Students will need to register for their days of service via the Operation Christmas Child website.

The cost of this mission trip will be your food and lodging during your time serving with OCC in Charlotte. There is also an opportunity to do the same service with Operation Christmas Child in Boone, NC.

Students who serve with Operation Christmas Child for at least three days of at least eight hours per day helping package shoe boxes for the OCC season will fulfill their mission trip requirement. Students will need to register for their days of service via the Operation Christmas Child website.

The cost of this mission trip will be your food and lodging during your time serving with OCC in Boone. There is also an opportunity to do the same service with Operation Christmas Child in Charlotte, NC.
