History of NRCA

The dream of North Raleigh Christian Academy became a reality in May of 1996 when Mt. Vernon Baptist Church opened their doors to the school. Dr. S. L. Sherrill, founder-superintendent continues to marvel at the miracle of this ministry.

In our first year at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, NRCA have 400 students. Pastor Shannon Scott, the pastor of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, encouraged his congregation to take a step of faith and God has richly blessed it.

In 1998, we began a second campus, K-6th grade at Open Door Baptist Church. Modulars were installed and a playground installed. Over 140 students arrived its first year.

Pastor Dwayne Milioni of Open Door Baptist Church supported the Durant campus as it grew to over 250 students in three years. Total enrollment at both campuses reached 868 by 2001.

With the purchase of 30 acres on Perry Creek Road in 1999, the Board of Governors began plans for the Perry Creek campus. Ground was broken in the Fall of 2000 for the new campus. After prayerful consideration, consolidation of the campuses, K-12 grade, was decided.

On August 17, 2002, the Perry Creek campus was dedicated. On August 19, over 1100 students entered the doors of the Academy. NRCA will continue to realize its vision as it seeks to make a difference in the hearts and lives of students through Christian education.
